March 2007: Report

Surrey Regional Group

15th February 2007

At the February meeting of the Surrey branch a representative of the Pension Service, Amanda Stacey, spoke to us about their services which included visiting service users at home.

In fact this is a countrywide service and they are happy to accept referrals from lawyers and other contacts.  They will help customers fill in attendance allowance claim forms; pension credit and savings credit forms and also assist to obtain details regarding pensions.

The members who attended found the meeting extremely useful and, indeed, Eila Rochfort, who is on the committee of the Solicitors Benevolent Association, was able to tell Amanda about the services that the charity can supply to solicitors and their families.

The pension service will not only assist people with state benefits but also advise them of other services such as assistance from charities.  Amanda made the point that she is often asked to assist with solicitors’ names and she has now made a note that Solicitors for the Elderly website would be useful in that respect.

Although there was a disappointing turnout it was felt to be a very useful meeting for those who did attend.
