home February 2007: Report of November meetingSouth Central joint STEP conference Mental Health Act Issues In November 2006 SFE South Central held a joint meeting with the Bournemouth branch of STEP in the form of a half day conference. There was a very good attendance of just under 100 delegates. Caroline Coats took the opportunity to introduce SFE to those present not already familiar with the organisation, resulting in subsequent applications for membership.
The speakers at the meeting were Caroline Bielanska and Martin Terrell. They spoke alternately, discussing forthcoming changes under the Mental Capacity Act. In particular, the changes at the Court of Protection, Lasting Powers of Attorney, and the Office of the Public Guardian.
Subsequent feedback indicates that such joint ventures are worthwhile and we would recommend similar opportunities to other groups. In our case special thanks must go to Gillian Linford, our secretary, who is a member of both groups and undertook all the liaison work. |
