On Wednesday 12th January 2005 we held our ‘Afternoon of Death’ with a talk from Mrs S E Meredith, the Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths, and an excellent and informative lecture by John Ellery, H.M. Coroner for Mid and North Shropshire.  He covered the following points:

·      a brief history of the Coroners' System

·      how the Coroners' Service works

·     what deaths are reported - can Old Age ever be an acceptable natural cause of death?

·      when Inquests are held

·      current Law

2.        R v. HM Coroner for Western District of Somerset

3.        R v. HM Coroner for the County of West Yorkshire

 ex parte Sacker
